When someone sends you an SMS or MMS message on your iPhone, it appears as a green bubble. iMessages appear as blue bubbles. When you set up Text Message Forwarding, you can send and receive the SMS and MMS messages from your iPhone on any Mac, iPad, or iPod touch that meets the Continuity system requirements.
The trick is this: while your text message is in the process of being sent - that is, when the Sending message is still shown at the top of the Messages app along with the blue status bar creeping. WLAN ON + GSM OFF (no reception) = the app does NOT send SMS, even after reception is back no SMS gets send. In the phone's messages log it tells 'failed sending SMS' WLAN OFF + GSM ON = the app sends SMS without user interaction (I checked my bill, and in fact a SMS got sent through the provider! - no data traffic to a server!).
Set up text message forwarding
In this iPhone tutorial, you'll learn how to stop a text message from sending on your iPhone. Sending a text message to the wrong person can be embarrassing. Go to Settings/Messages. Tap on Send & Receive. Tap on your Apple ID and then Sign Out. I know that it's well hidden, but it's there. It is worth noting, however, that any messages you send with effects will play the effects for you when you hit the send button, regardless as to whether 'Auto-Play Message Effects' is on or off. The setting only affects incoming messages. Don't Miss: Disable Auto-Playing Video Previews on Your iPhone in iOS 13.
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. On your Mac, open Messages, choose Messages > Preferences, then click iMessage. Make sure that you're signed in to iMessage with the same Apple ID on all your devices.
- On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding.*
- Choose which devices can send and receive text messages from your iPhone. If you're not using two-factor authentication for your Apple ID, a verification code appears on each of your other devices: enter that code on your iPhone.
As long as your iPhone is turned on and connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network, new SMS/MMS texts can be sent and received on the devices that you added.

iPhone users have now the option to enable/disable the auto-message effects. Most importantly, they will work even when Reduce Motion is turned on.
